QUARTERLY GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT
Second Quarter 2005

The Gross Domestic Product for the second quarter of 2005, recently released by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica showed that the Gross Domestic Product at constant prices increased marginally by 0.2 percent in the second quarter of 2005 when compared to the previous quarter.
The Productive Sector grew by 1.5 percent while the Services Sector declined by 0.5 percent.

When compared to the June quarter of 2004 the economy grew Marginally by 0.3 percent. Output in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector fell by 16.9 percent, however there was growth in Mining and Quarrying of 0.2 percent, Manufacturing 0.6 percent and Construction and installation 8.7 percent.

Growth in the Service Sector continued during the period. Increasing by 0.6 percent. Those sectors recording improved performances were Electricity and Water which grew by 1.7 percent, Distributive Trade 1.1 percent, Real Estate and Business Services 2.2 percent and Producers of Government Services 0.4 percent. However, Transport, Storage and Communication, Finance and Insurance Services and Miscellaneous Services declined during the third quarter.
