QUARTERLY GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT
Fourth Quarter 2005

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica recently releases the Gross Domestic Product Quarterly for the Fourth quarter of 2005. Which shows the Jamaican economy declined by 0.6 percent during the fourth quarter of 2005, when compared to the previous quarter. The Productive Sector fell by 5.6 percent while the Services Sector Grew by 2.2 percent

When compared to the fourth quarter of 2004, the economy grew by 2.7 percent. This performance reflected in part recovery from the impact of hurricane Ivan in the previous year. The Productive Sector increased by 1.4 percent as a result of significant growth in the Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector. The Services Sector grew by 3.4 percent reflecting improved performances in all industries within the group.

During the calendar year 2005, the Jamaican economy grew by 1.5 percent. Higher output levels were recorded in both the Productive and Services Sectors, which increased by 1.1 and 1.8 percent respectively. All sectors except Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing and Manufacturing recorded growth.
