QUARTERLY GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT
Third Quarter 2007

The Gross Domestic Product for the Third Quarter of 2007, recently released by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica showed that the Jamaican economy grew by 0.4 per cent when compared to the third quarter of 2006. The Productive Sector fell by 1.0 percent as lower output levels were recorded in all industries, with the exception of Construction and Installation. The Services Sector grew however increased by 1.2 percent. This was the result of improved performances in all industries with the exception of Electricity and Water.

When compared to the previous quarter the economy declined by 0.1 percent. This reflected the impact of the passage of hurricane Dean in August. The Productive Sector declined by 1.7 percent while the Services Sector grew by 0.7 per cent.
